My Personal Retreat

...for four years was the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception. I went there one day while I was home because, realistically, it was my last chance. I took about a million pictures and tried to suck in all the details to carry around with me for the next... however long until I see it again.

I will miss it.

I suppose this is where I don't mention my daily proximity to that Building.

Trust me, you should be glad you only see it every once in a while. After about a year with the place the honeymoon is over and next thing you know you find yourself bitterly scoffing at the "American Byzantine" architecture and cursing the Episcopals for stealing the only Gothic church in DC... Grrrrrrr.

I mean... what the hell do the Episcopals know about Gothic architecture anyway? We Catholics were building Gothic Cathedrals when those heathens were sticking pigs in the forrest... but... I digress.

Wouldn't a more accurate comment be:

"We Catholics were building Gothic Cathedrals when those heathens were... Catholic" ?
